Today we are highlighting Community Based Organization and Equity+ Network member NC Black Alliance!
About the Organization
The North Carolina Black Alliance (NCBA) is working toward state-level systemic change by strengthening the network of elected officials representing communities of color throughout the state and collaborating with progressive, grassroots networks on intersecting issues. These issues range from voting rights, gerrymandering, criminal justice reform, health and wellness, economic development to education. The Alliance is an intergovernmental network of African American legislators, county commissioners, school board members, and municipal elected officials centered by a commitment to ambitiously address broad issues of inequality and fairness. NCBA collaborates with strategic partners to advance the work of those organizations and to enhance intentional collaboration with black constituencies.
Services Provided
We serve our communities in the form of issue education around issues of democracy and voting, access to healthcare, environmental justice, crime & justice, education, and economic empowerment.
Success Story
In 2022 our healthcare team hosted our inaugural NCBA Rooted in Wellness Statewide Health Fair. On July 30, 2022, our team coordinated seven sites across the state and reached almost 700 North Carolinians. Our objectives were to educate attendees about Medicaid Managed Care and health equity issues, conduct health care screenings, expose attendees to local Black-owned businesses, and have a fun day of health. Through this event communities across North Carolina reflected on how, “Black health is about our physical, mental, and spiritual health and being rooted in wellness. Education, advocacy, and knowing your own body are key to ensuring good health and life balance. Rest, balancing your obligations, and setting boundaries are essential to promote self-care and continued well-being.”
Communities Served
